Herbal Adventure Series :: Urban Plant Walk w/ Molly Branch

  • Avalon North 1 Washington St, Suite 4162 Dover, NH (map)

Dirty Dover Urban Plant Walk (Rain or Shine)

We will take a walk around downtown Dover and identify many of the wild medicinal plants (wild weeds!) that sprout up through the cracks and dirt.

We will discuss:
-Basic Urban Plant Identification
-Urban Plant's Medicinal Uses.
-General "wildcrafting" and harvesting rules of thumb
*Ethical foraging practices are of utmost importance to both Molly and Avalon North

Guests will take home one of Molly Branch's invigorating herbal tea blends

Our fearless Herbal Leader, Molly Branch, spent much of her childhood trying to practice Wiccanism, inspired by Willow from Buffy the Vampire Slayer. The witch identity simmered away as she grew up and went to UNH, where she studied English Teaching and Women's Studies - only to discover (during her last semester!) that she didn't want to be an English teacher after all, and had become jaded by the constant uphill battle fighting the hegemonic capitalist white male supremacist state of things. She decided she needed to heal, and returned to her childhood dream of becoming a witch. Spending two years mostly self-taught and attending various workshops and mini-herbal courses, Molly decided to dive in deep with a two-year apprenticeship in Plant Spirit Medicine at the Gaia School of Healing in Putney, VT. While so many things have felt muddled, the path to becoming a healer and working with plant medicine has been a strong, clear, and truly magical calling. Molly is passionate about most things, but especially women's health and healing and sharing what she's learned with others. She is currently taking an advanced herbal apprenticeship with Mischa Schuler at Wild Carrot Herbs in Portland, ME., and has recently earned her Reiki I attunement. She is the manager of the Herbal Path in Portsmouth. In her free time, she draws and paints, reads books, cooks vegetarian food, and plays the harp.

Part of Avalon North’s mission is to work against age division. A subset of that is our wish to engage mothers with children in tow, as we feel much of American society prefers mothers with children to stay at home or confine themselves to the Mcdonald's ball pit. We will actively fight against this compartmentalization of motherhood.

In addition to our kid-centered events programming
Our Child Welcoming Policy is as follows:

-Infants always welcome at all times without exception.

-Mildly to Extremely well-behaved Children of all genders under 18 are welcome at all events, (unless otherwise noted in the case of certain adult topics or for some open hours and events where mothers and the rest of us, may enjoy a break from all children including our own)

-If your child walks a fine line between badly and mildly well behaved (as they all have at certain points in their lives, feel free to come and try, and if you have to take the little darling home, there will be no judgment and you will be reimbursed the cost of your admittance)

-If the event is not geared specifically for children, please be aware that this is an adult women’s club and adults will be speaking freely and sometimes swears happen. We welcome and adore children, but we do not give them thrones

-Children (of all genders) under 14 are free with an adult ticket
