STUDIO RESIDENT
Jocelyn Toffic is the founder of Avalon North. She is also a figurative narrative artist working mainly in oil, although she dabbles in mixed media assemblages, and live/dead animal installations. Her work is part of the permanent collection at Harfnarborg Museum and The Icelandic Phallological Museum.

Eileen Ryan
Studio Resident
Eileen is an interdisciplinary artist that incorporates her background in microbiology, art, and hospitality to create investigative works about science and mysticism. Using a process of imagination, experimentation, and observation, Eileen creates installations, performances, and paintings to communicate her concepts to a variety of audiences around the world. Her publication “CODEX” is out now!

Kat Legier
Kat (she/her) is a ceramic artist fresh out of the UNH system with a degree in sociology and women’s studies with a minor in fine arts. She enjoys traveling (Hungary, Nicaragua, and Greece are her holy three), creating, and dipping her piggies in natural bodies of water. She is passionate about harm reduction, reproductive rights, and housing for all. When she can, she mixes her love for ceramics and other mediums with activism and is serving as the Reproductive Freedom Fund’s first-ever artist in residence.

Nola Hesby
Nola Hesby is an artist living in Seacoast NH.
She explores her love of nature and light through various forms, often painting with gouache and pastels. Through her works, you will find vibrant colors, optimism, and a true love for the earth we share. She loves being part of a wonderful community of artists and creators such as Avalon North.

Ronnie Dane
Ronnie is a mom of three who has held a beating heart in her hand while flying over the Swiss Alps at sunrise, but is currently disabled due to ME/CFS (feel free to google and ask her about it!) In her past life, Ronnie has been a critical care RN, professional dancer/dance instructor, and she is a trained sexual assault nurse examiner and confidential advocate. She’s navigating the ups and downs of her health journey, and figuring out how she can best serve herself and others during this time.

Marcie (She/her) is a single mom and a powerhouse of support for those around her as well as so many just causes. Marcie is consistently the first to show up at the rally and is a constant north star when energy flags.
She is creative and analytical and has very recently come out of her creative shell to participate in our makers markets with her gorgeous block prints.

Amy Michael - forensic Anthropologist + professor
(She/her) I'm relatively new to New England and currently working at the University of New Hampshire as an Assistant Professor of Anthropology. I'm a forensic anthropologist interested in solving cold cases involving transgender and gender-expansive victims. I am a founding board member of Trans Doe Task Force, a grassroots activist organization focused on identifying LGBTQ+ cold case victims. Outside of work, I love cult horror movies (like, obsessively!), finding used book stores to raid, hiking (particularly the Sandwich range), and attempting a range of hobbies that I'm never very good at but always wanna try!

Nikki Rae
Fire Fae, a vibrant soul, studied fine arts at the New Hampshire Institute of Art. Lost initially after college, she discovered herself within a community of creative weirdos traveling and going to music festivals, living her best life excelling in fire performance and founding an all-female collective with her best friends, called Luminous. After running away to the circus, she embraced a slower pace, delving into bath alchemy and founding her business, Star Quality Ritual. As a mother to a teen she is now navigating her crone phase, she balances roles as an activist, personal growth enthusiast, soap and candle maker, fire dancer, and digital witch. Nikki Codgill (she/her) is an experienced amateur burlesque dancer and a founding member of the Portsmouth-based Lady Luck Burlesque. She loves to entertain and make people laugh.
She also enjoys embroidery, latch hook rug making, delightfully inexpert tarot card readings, and attempting to make resin molds that look like old jello recipes. She never tries to do anything perfectly and it doesn't matter! When she's around everyone has a good time.

Jacqueline Finnerty
Jacqueline (she/her) is a long-time Dover resident and recent graduate, where she received a dual degree in sociology and social justice studies. She’s always up for a new adventure whether it’s a walk down a local trail or a trip halfway around the world (whenever it’s possible). Jacqueline is a paralegal who dabbles in all kinds of creative processes but her favorites are calligraphy and crafting flowers from paper. In the summer you can find her trying to grow actual flowers and vegetables in her garden. After injuring herself several years ago she found yoga and meditation to be helpful tools for stress and pain management and she loves to share these practices with others. She’s a history nerd and loves reading historical fiction.

Kim (she/her) is a graphic artist. Her Dover-based company Kimski Creative focuses on branding, packaging design, print and digital marketing. She has also studied Herbalism and has a side project – Kimski Botanika, making tea blends and body care products from plant medicine. She is deeply moved and inspired by the vibrations of nature and music, and loves connecting with others through these passions. Christine Pizzo
Experienced catalyst, creative director, innovation strategist, college professor and community builder she's hard to pin down, but a charming delight to be around. She's built up inclusive motorcycle communities, traveled alone for all women's moto campouts in Wales and Joshua Tree, taken her bestie Sherlock (Australian Shepherd + Bearded Collie mix) to 11 states and 2 countries in the sidecar (she's hit 46) and is learning to fly airplanes due to owning/living on NH86 Intervale. Hannah is a flight attendant by night and a book editor by day. She started her editing business April Editorial in 2023 and primarily edits romance and fantasy novels. She has a passion for travel and good books and is on the hunt for the perfect iced coffee. Her favorite places to travel are Scotland, Greece, and Thailand. She grew up in Washington State but has since moved all over the US, and is hoping that New England is her forever home.

Malone (she/her) is a mid-Atlantic girl with some Southern roots at heart. She has a passion for permaculture, gardening, and being in harmony with the land. Slow crafts of knitting, sewing, mending, refinishing, and cooking from scratch, ( the list goes on), are her happy places. Natural dyes, natural materials like wool, linen, cotton. Crochet baskets using plastic from single use bags. Invent new ways to upcycle materials into new items. Make new clothes from old clothes and mend by applying patches and using boro stitching. Draw mostly using pastels or pencils but like to use other mediums: inks, watercolors, and acrylics. Upcycle furniture, lamps, old suitcases, upholster chairs and even one couch. Cook and preserve food - love to make pickled anything, mostly jalapenos and radishes but also cuces and green tomatoes. My home made hummus is famous.

Professionally, Anne is a Licensed Massage Therapist and Energy Worker based in Rollinsford, NH. She likes to geek out about the body, and also likes to meditate into the great unknown, which is really what fuels her life choices for the most part. Kara (she/her) writes music and recently purchased a piano. She works as a graphic designer and illustrator for Bottomline Technologies. Kara’s degree is in Painting, and she loves film and experimenting with digital visuals for her music in her spare time. She will be releasing new music soon, stay tuned.
Her studio is filled with all manner of elaborate contraptions, and we are endlessly curious about what she does with them all. She’s probably addicted to coffee and peanut butter and is easily one of the sweetest peas in the pod.

Bree is the tall woman running around Portsmouth with a bass drum in a baby carriage. She is a current member of the Leftist Marching Band and participates in activism campaigns in the tri-state area. In earlier days, Bree produced and hosted the annual comedy game show William Shatner Beat Night. She also recorded with local artists on various RPM Challenge projects, including one band that performed at TedX Piscatiqua in 2013. Other stage activities include storytelling, acting, and theater tech. A degree in Economics and a career in data analytics, warehousing, and logistics did not prepare Bree for a fulfilling life but she is happy to share what she knows about corrugated cardboard, Excel, and outdated DOT regulations.

Ariel is an Arizona transplant and was Director of the Youth Success Project. Who has gone part time at the org to get her Masters!
The Youth Success Project is a board of young people who have experienced homelessness and are working to improve systems and end youth homelessness in New Hampshire. Ariel is passionate about grassroots advocacy work, Harm Reduction, social justice work, community building, youth empowerment, and housing equity. Ariel spends her free time relaxing outside with her dog Abby (an honorary Avalon member), doing YouTube yoga, and paddle boarding.

Amanda just published her first book of poetry

Amanda is also a professional queer nerd. She is a writer, pianist, and owner of Living Fictions Entertainment where she helps fellow nerds engage in escapism and beat each other up in the woods with foam weaponry. When she’s not engaging in nerd bullshit she’s working in finance or has her nose buried in a book while being bombarded by her rescue Pitbull, Russian Blue, and Lynx Point Siamese. She avidly advocates for mental health and addiction and often volunteers for these causes.
